Spanish Casinos

Gambling in Spain for all spanish casinos is a complicated matter: This is a country with 17 autonomous regions and laws & regulations differ in almost every region. Until 1977, gambling was prohibited in all country and had extremely heavy sanctions (such as prison sentences). In 1977, this restriction was abolished, and terrestrial casinos were allowed. However, this regulation was not accepted by all autonomous regions, and there were various problems in practice. Even for a long time, it was not possible to see a terrestrial casino in any area except Barcelona casinos.

Although terrestrial casinos were legal, online gambling was still prohibited for a very long time. However, in 2010, the Spanish government realized that the ban had no meaning: The foreign casino sites still accepted Spanish players and did not pay taxes because their servers were not in the country. Unlike most other countries, Spain had logical bureaucrats, and they understood that prohibiting online gambling was meaningless and “non-profitable”. In 2011, the “Spanish Gambling Act” was released and online gambling became legal in all countries. Autonomous regions were free to make their own decisions, but until now, no region opposed this regulation. In short, today, all kinds of gambling games can be played legally in Spain.
